SHE HOPES

Yesterday I came across this picture (shown above) with an interesting and inspiring write-up, and that's when I thought of sharing it on my blog along with this following poem that I was inspired to write :-

SHE HOPES

"I'm just twenty-one!" she pleaded,
as tears rolled down her tender cheecks.
Dreams she had been cherishing for years,
were all in a single day shattered in tears.

A perfect husband for her they had found,
perfect according to their own definitions.
Rich was his family, well-employed was he,
"Our daughter is blessed!" they cried in glee.

"I'm not yet ready" she tried to explain,
but all in vain, they just weren't listening.
"We know what's best for you. So just obey!
A good daughter you better be." they'd say.

What would people say, what'll others think.
what if another good allaince never did come.
These they found as reasons to justify,
to let all her dreams and aspirations die.

A graduation is more than enough they felt,
"A good homemaker is what you'll be".
Afterall she's a girl and all she can do is dream,
who was to hear her heart's silent scream?

For been born a girl she cursed herself,
for no right to dream she had she realized
An obedient daughter she had to be,
or run away to fulfill her dreams you see.

She had that fire to fight for her dreams,
she could feel her heart break to just let it go.
But at the end of it had no choice did she,
an obliged daughter she rather chose to be.

And that was the death of an ambitious girl,
who her own identity had dreamt to build.
But deep within her still hasn't she lost hope,
"What if my husband understands? Oh I hope..."
